Setting Account Flags

Accounts and/or subaccounts can be frozen to prevent future transactions from being executed. Both debits and credits are disabled on accounts/subacounts that are frozen. This action is most useful during the closing process of an award or to protect a cost sharing account from erroneous charges aftetr the commitment is met. It is possible to unfreeze an account/subaccount if needed.

To set the freeze flag on an account...

  1. Log in to the account create ACCTS module
  2. go to the "Account Flags" tab and click the "set flags" button
  3. Select freeze/unfreeze for the entire account or a particular subaccount (repeat as needed)
  4. Choose the appropriate reason and click "submit"

The delete flag should never be used on sponsored award, endowment, or restricted gift accounts. These must be closed through other procedures. A delete flag can be set on an unrestricted account (2-ledger, 4-ledger). The process is the same as the freeze flag, just select the "delete" option rather than "freeze/unfreeze."
