E-Verify is an Internet-based system that compares information from an employee's Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, to data from U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Social Security Administration records to confirm employment eligibility.

The E-Verify system must be used to verify the legal employment status for new and existing employees who are paid from federal contracts worth more than $150K and or lasting at least 120 days (as well as all standard work orders with Argonne and Fermi national laboratories).

The E-Verify procedures are generally handled by the central payroll office. However, they may contact the LBC if additional information is needed.
